Faced with a Fire Rescue, Jason Weinrich Does all the Right Things

This is one to learn from!  He called 911 first (READ THAT AGAIN!) stuck to a path that was clear, stayed low to avoid the smoke and flames, and followed the sound of the victim's voice.  Super!

Shane Ward Honored for 2010 Rescue From Burning Car

If the Canegie Hero Fund elects to honor someone, it means he or she braved some really hazardous conditions.  We don't have a lot of detail on exactly what it was like, but an overturned car, already aflame, with three people inside is pretty dicey.

Thrown Back By Explosion, Soldier Keeps Trying to Help Victim

What kind of person not only goes into the burning cab of a big-rig to help a stranger, but then returns to the vehicle after getting blown back by igniting fuel?  Perhaps we will find out who the mystery soldier from Lewis-McChord was in the coming days.

Ian Wood Honored for Braving Explosive Environment to Help His Friend

When fire and explosions began to rock his building, which housed hundreds of cylinders of explosive compressed gas, not only did he sound the alarm and get people moving out, but he went INTO the area where the gas was stored, finding an injured person.  He went out to call for professional help, then went BACK in to stay with the injured man until help arrived.  There are still heroes out there!

Carl Loando Pulls Trapped Woman from Flames

You normally think of Hawaii as a relaxed, laid-back place, but life can get intense even there.  Mr Loando was recently honored for stepping up to an extremely intense situation.

Aaron Love Honored for Saving Drowning Kids

When he jumped into a pond to save two struggling kids last summer, Aaron was betting it all on his strong swimming skills.  The gamble paid off and he saved two lives.

Need to Stop a Shark Attack? Trevor Burns Finds a Way.

Sharks being fish, they need water flowing through their gills to breathe.  Many fish can pump water through their gills regardless of their swimming speed, but most sharks need forward speed to generate that flow.  It could be that Mr. Burns has shown us a really effective way to stop a shark attack.  It can't do much if you wrap yourself around its tail... if you can only hang on.  Way to go!

Nurse Enters Burning Car and STAYS!

These are my favorites, because the heroic nurse has apparently chosen to remain anonymous.  She actually climbed into the car to protect occupants from flames while others fought the fire.  All survived.

Derek Greenwood Takes on Man with 8-inch Knife to Save Friend

At 73 years-of-age, it takes something pretty special to take on a younger man armed with a knife.  Mr Greenwood saw a co-worker threatened and responded instantly.  One message: staying in shape does more than help us enjoy our own lives better and longer.  Perhaps our health can give others longer lives as well?

Leslie Johnson Braves a Hail of Bullets to Help Stranger

The story at the link below is this blog's inaugural story of selflessness and courage. The plan is to share many more of these in the months ahead. Leslie and her two children were shot at multiple times as they helped a young woman escape from a truly life-threatening situation. Her SUV door stopped no less than five bullets, all intended for her or the young lady she rescued. All I want to know is: What kind of an SUV was she driving? Wow!
